Mouse DcTRAILR1 and DcTRAILR2 (decoy TRAIL receptors 1 and 2) proteins are receptors for TRAIL according to ligand-receptor binding assays (Schneider et al. 2001). However, overexpression does not cause NF-kB activation or apoptosis, as would be expected of a TRAIL receptor. These observations led researchers to refer to these receptors as decoys.
