GATAD2A is a gene encoding a protein that functions as a subunit of the nucleosome remodeling and deacetylase (NuRD) complex, which plays a crucial role in chromatin remodeling and gene expression regulation. Located on the human chromosome, GATAD2A contains proline-rich PPPL theta motifs that facilitate interactions with MYND domains in proteins such as ZMYND8, distinguishing it from its paralog GATAD2B. This gene is important for various cellular processes, particularly during neural development, where it participates in modulating chromatin structure through histone deacetylation and ATP-dependent remodelings, like those mediated by NuRD.
