Applications
(R)-(+)-β-Hydroxy-γ-butyrolactone is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a chiral building block for the statin class of cholesterol-reducing drugs. It is also used to prepare HIV inhibitors and nutritional supplement such as L-carnitine.

Solubility
Miscible with ethanol and chloroform.

Notes
Store in a cool place. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.
