Description
Prepare wet mounts of intestinal protozoa using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop Dobell and O’Connor Iodine stain. In 1921, Dobell and O’Connor formulated the iodine solution for staining of protozoan cysts in fecal specimens1. They found that a weak iodine solution that could obscure or entrap organisms did not coagulate fecal particles. It has also been reported that a weak iodine solution does not adversely affect the refractile nature of stained organisms, as concentrated iodine does2.
The iodine mount is useful for the examination of cysts and eggs, but trophozoites are killed. The chromatin material of amebic cysts stain dark brown against the yellow-brown cytoplasm, the nuclear structures are differentiated and the glycogen masses stain a mahogany brown2.Ready-to-use: Liquid stainEasy-to-interpret:Chromatin material of amebic cysts stain dark brownGlycogen masses stain mahogany brownThe reagent contains potassium iodide (2% w/v) and iodine (1% w/v) in demineralized water and is supplied as 0.75mL ampules. Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
