Description
- Ricinus Communis (Castor Bean) Agglutinin I (RCA I, RCA120), fluorescein (FITC), is a bright-green RCA-fluorophor conjugate.
- RCA I is a tetramer composed of two α– and two β–chains. RCA I blocks protein synthesis and is toxic to cultured cells and somewhat toxic to mice.
- RCA I has been used to distinguish tumor cells from normal cells in tissue. RCA I has also been used to distinguish microglia in human nervous tissues, where RCA I does not react with astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and neurons.
- RCA I does react with blood cells and endothelial cells, but those cells can be easily distinguished from microglia.
- Very bright FITC conjugate detected with traditional FITC/GFP filter set, Ex/Em: 495/515 nm
- Applications: immunofluorescence, glycobiology
- Sugar specificity: galactose, lactose
- Inhibiting/eluting sugar: 200 mM galactose or lactose
- Blood group specificity: non-specific
- Unconjugated lectin molecular weight: 120 KDa
- Immunofluorescence working concentration: 5–20 μg/mL
- RCA I-FITC is provided at a 5 mg/mL concentration in 10 mM HEPES, 0.15 M NaCl, pH 7.5, 0.08% sodium azide, 0.1 mM Ca2+
- Caution in use of this lectin: It has been found to have moderate toxicity in some animal models, and toxicity to humans has not been determined. Please note that the related protein RCA II (RCA 60) is highly toxic to humans.
