Description
The thiosulfate anion reacts stoichiometrically with iodine in aqueous solution. Due to the quantitative nature of this reaction, sodium thiosulfate is used as a redox titrant in volumetric analysis and is a component of iodine clock experiments. It can be used to measure the oxygen content of water and to estimate the concentration of certain compounds in solution (hydrogen peroxide, chlorine). It also has many medicinal uses.
