Comprising TMSI in pyridine, this reagent silylates alcohols and phenols, organic acids, hydroxylamines, amino acids, carbohydrates, flavonoids, glycols and polyglycols, nucleotides, steroids, hydroxyl acids, barbituates, narcotics, indoles, and vitamins.

May be used in the presence of water as long as there is enough reagent present to react with both the water and the sample.
