Syror
Organiska och oorganiska syror lämpliga för en mängd olika laboratorieapplikationer. Produkterna finns i fast och flytande form och i olika pH-värden, kvantiteter, reagenskvaliteter och renheter.
Syror definieras som ämnen som har en sur smak, ett lågt pH (< 7), och få lackmuspapper att bli rött. De reagerar också med baser (ger vatten och joniska föreningar som kallas salter) och producerar vätgas när den används för att lösa upp metaller som zink och järn.
Kemiskt sett är en syra en molekyl eller jon som fungerar som en proton- eller vätejongivare (Br nsted-øLowry-syra) i en icke-vattenhaltig lösning. I vatten bildar syror hydroniumjoner (H 3 O + ).
En syra definieras alternativt som en molekyl eller jon som accepterar ett elektronpar (Lewis-syra). Ett exempel är trifluorboran, som har en boratom som kan acceptera ett elektronpar från ammoniak (NH3) för att bilda NH3-BF3.
Vanliga oorganiska syror inkluderar saltsyra, svavelsyra, salpetersyra och fosforsyra. Vanliga organiska syror inkluderar ättiksyra, bensoesyra, citronsyra och mjölksyra.
I laboratoriet används syror som reagens eller katalysator i många typer av kemiska reaktioner.
Starka syror, såsom svavelsyra och saltsyra, är mycket frätande och har omfattande kommersiella tillämpningar.
- Svavelsyra används för att bearbeta petroleum och mineraler och för att göra andra kemikalier som salpetersyra
- Saltsyra används för att beta stål och andra metaller
- Vissa syror används som neutralisatorer för att producera salter; till exempel framställs ammoniumnitrat genom reaktion mellan salpetersyra och ammoniak
